It is with great pleasure that the Region 6 leadership team announces Ms. Nikki Steptoe-Coleman as the new principal of Forestdale Elementary School, effective July 1, 2024. Ms. Steptoe-Coleman is an exceptional educational leader whose vision and dedication align perfectly with our commitment to providing a welcoming, high-quality, inclusive education for all our students.  

Ms. Steptoe-Coleman’s educational and professional preparation makes her an ideal leader for Forestdale Elementary School. Ms. Steptoe-Coleman holds a Bachelor of Science in Recreation & Leisure Studies degree from Old Dominion University, an Educational Specialist Degree in Leadership and Administration from The George Washington University, and a Master of Education in Special Education degree from George Mason University. Ms. Steptoe-Coleman is also in the process of completing her Doctor of Education in Education Policy, Planning, and Leadership from The College of William & Mary. Beyond her educational preparation, Ms. Steptoe-Coleman has supported schools from both school-based and central office positions, whereby she served as a special education teacher, assistant principal, and Autism and IEP Coordinator. Most recently, she served as principal of Rockledge Elementary in Prince William County, where she led the school community in creating a culture where diversity is celebrated and increased student achievement across content areas, with noted student growth in reading and science. 

Throughout her career, Ms. Steptoe-Coleman has focused on the establishment and maintenance of safe, student-centered environments where all stakeholders work collaboratively toward common goals. She has a track record for ensuring all stakeholders have an active voice, improving student achievement, developing, and monitoring successful continuous improvement plans, and building the capacity of instructional and teacher leaders.  

Ms. Steptoe-Coleman is excited to join the Forestdale community and is eager to work with our dedicated team of educators, staff, students, and families. Her leadership will be instrumental in continuing our tradition of excellence and in fostering an inclusive and high-achieving school environment.
